Get Ready for Summer by the Sea

Posted May 25th, 2016

Ride the wave of ocean-inspired art all the way to the shores of summer.  Our waterfront location and the lengthening days have our CRAFTED artists thinking about sailing, sea life and sunny afternoons at the beach – here’s a few of their latest creations.  And speaking of longer days, our new summer hours begin on June 2 – we will be open for First Thursdays each month from 4 to 8 p.m. and every Friday-Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Ready to make a day of it?  The LA Waterfront Red Trolley is back, so you can travel around downtown San Pedro and visit our many attractions at no charge.  Take public transit to San Pedro (the Silver Line and DASH are great options) or leave your car in one spot and get a whole weekends’ worth of fun.

The entire route is approximately 40 minutes and the trolleys are 15 minutes apart, so you can hop on and off anywhere along the way and then get back on when you’re done!

    • CRAFTED and Brouwerij West (of course)
    • The Doubletree Hotel on the Marina
    • Cabrillo Marine Aquarium
    • Ports O’Call
    • The Battleship Iowa
    • Two stops on 6th Street and one on 7th, serving downtown’s many shops, restaurants, art galleries and theaters

Trolley runs every Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

The LA Waterfront Red Trolley is sponsored by the San Pedro Historic Waterfront Business Improvement District and the Port of Los Angeles.

Global Gifts is an all-volunteer run store with handmade gifts and modern folk art from around the world.  Formerly located on Western Avenue, the shop has been located in San Pedro for more than 40 years.  Every sale raises money for UNICEF, and whenever possible they purchase their items from Fair Trade organizations or from the artists themselves.

For a variety of reasons, artists in developing countries often have access to new excess material and can get creative with these found objects.  This has resulted in clever and unique items that aren’t just beautiful and useful, and also good for the planet by giving waste manufacturing products out of landfills and oceans. Here’s just a sampling of the clever and creative up-cycled gifts and accessories to celebrate Earth Day!
