By next year, the developers of Bergamont Station will open an art studio and marketplace inside a pair of vacant wood-frame warehouses at the Port of Los Angeles under a 25-year lease approved Thursday by the Board of Harbor Commissioners.
“It’s not only the first commercial development at the port in years, but it’s also our first adaptive reuse of a warehouse facility for community use,” said Geraldine Knatz, executive director of the Port of Los Angeles.
Dubbed Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles, the venue will offer affordable paintings, sculptures, carvings and other handicrafts directly sold by 500 artists sitting in open stalls – a setting reminiscent of a street fair.
