Earth Day Celebration

Posted April 18th, 2013

Earth Day is right around the corner. This weekend our artists, local community businesses and non-profit organizations, are coming together to celebrate and go green. We will be participating in the first ever Long Beach Green Prix in downtown Long Beach this Saturday April 20 from 11am -6pm. Our booth at the Green Prix will be hosting kids craft activities using recycled materials. If you are visiting our handmade market, we will be hosting a slew of fun, green activities for the whole family.

Here’s a schedule of this weekend’s events.

Friday – Sunday from 11am-6pm:

Visit our Creation Station to make upcycled crafts. All proceeds from the craft activities will be donated to the Marine Mammal Care Center in San Pedro. This year their has been an unusual influx of baby sea lions stranded on Southern California shores, the Marine Mammal Care Center tends and rehabilitates these injured animals with community support and donations. NPR has covered the story and you can read all about it here.

Saturday 1pm-2pm

Our main event…The GRUNION are coming! The Cabrillo Marine Aquarium will be giving a lecture for Earth Day and will be bringing live grunion to our handmade market. This amazing organization is always in need of volunteers, what a better way to show your love for the Earth by donating your time to our local aquarium. Visit our market this Saturday for more info.

Saturday 3pm-4pm

Nagare, booth A 209, will be hosting a fun craft in our demonstration area. Create a beautiful necklace using a scrabble pendant with a picture of the earth for Earth Day, April 22nd.
