Crafted at the Port of Los Angeles

SirensCalling

My name is Michelle and I am the owner, designer, and maker of SirensCalling.
SirensCalling was created from a love of the sea and a need to create.
My work is heavily inspired by the natural world and especially the ocean. I learned the art of fused glass in 2000 when I was living in Portland, OR. My husband and I relocated to sunny San Pedro, California in 2013 where I now work from my home studio. In February 2015 I joined the Crafted family where my glass art can be seen and purchased.
I love creating bowls, plates, and platters that delight the eye as well as the mind. I have also created many custom pieces, working closely with my customers to bring their vision to life forever in glass. It should be noted that all of my glass bowls, plates and platters are completely food safe and I encourage you to honor your meals by serving them on beautifully crafted dishes.
Each piece of fused glass I make first starts as a sketch in one of my many sketchbooks. After I have a sketch idea I then select the glass for the piece from large sheets of flat glass. The pattern is then transferred to the glass and each piece is cut by hand to size. Alter all of the pieces have been cut they are then carefully washed and dried. All of these pieces are then reassembled and placed in to the kiln for firing. Each firing in the kiln takes at least 12 hours to complete and many of my pieces require multiple firings to achieve the various shapes and textures.
After all of the firing in the kiln has been completed, each piece is then ready to find its new forever home.
