Celebrate the Winter Holidays with Dinner at Brouwerij West
November 20, 2016 @ 2:00 am - 5:00 pm
Check out Brouwerij West’s first Norwegian dinner honoring the winter holidays – featuring lutefisk and lefse, two traditional dishes from Scandinavia, plus Brouwerij West beer and more.
The idea for this dinner came from Brouwerij West founder Brian Mercer, a fourth generation Norwegian-American who grew up in our Nordic-heavy home of San Pedro, as a way to showcase his local childhood traditions – perhaps a tradition that is lesser known in LA.
The dinner will include lutefisk (a cured whitefish), lefse (a Norwegian unleavened bread), rømmegraut (a sour cream porridge) and other native Scandinavian fare, like meatballs, lingonberry sauce, and boiled potatoes. Throughout Scandinavia, lutefisk is eaten mostly during celebratory periods such as the Christmas season. It is made with a variety of white fish but mostly cod and is “cured” in a bath of cold water and lye over a period of several days.
The menu for the Dinner will be handmade by our friends at Primal Alchemy, a Long Beach-based caterer descended from a long line of Swedish Californians, and will consist of:
Lutefisk
Lefse
Swedish Meatballs & Gravy
Lingonberry Sauce
Boiled Potatoes
Scandivanian Slaw (cabbage-based)
Rømmegraut (a native sour cream porridge)
Pickled Beets
Assorted Vegetables
And of course Brouwerij West Popfuji unfiltered pilsner
The event is $39 per person, which includes two pints of Popfuji pilsner. For children between the ages of 7 – 12, the price of the dinner is $10, and the dinner is free for children 6 and under.
